Grenada 50th Independence Celebration

On February 7th, 2024, Grenada marked its grand 50th Independence celebration with a spectacular event. The stadium overflowed with excitement as vibrant fireworks and captivating drone displays lit up the sky. Adorned in the national colors of red, yellow, and green, Grenadians embraced the festivities with unparalleled patriotism, and many from the diaspora journeyed to Grenada to partake in this historic occasion.

Grenadian Artist Contributes to 50th Independence

Our artist Credell Simeon actively participated in the 50th Independence celebrations in her homeland of Grenada. She seized the opportunity to showcase her exquisite glass art and engage in national art exhibitions. Her hand-painted glass pieces, specifically on recyclable glass bottles and wine glasses, embody her nostalgia and patriotism for her island. Credell’s intention was to highlight the elegance and sophistication of her art while drawing attention to the glass medium. Through her creativity and utilization of glass and mixed media, she crafted truly unique masterpieces that can be beautifully photographed in high quality.

The 50th Independence celebration adopted the theme “One People, One Journey, One Future.” This central theme resonated deeply with artist and glass painter Credell Simeon. Rooted in the theme is a call for Grenada to enhance climate resilience through innovation and technology. Credell passionately urges her island to journey forward in unity, hope, and a shared vision for a more climate-resilient nation.

From 1974 to 2024, Grenada’s journey has been marked by resilience, adversity, and remarkable achievements. Noteworthy milestones include Olympic track and field medals, the establishment of an international airport, recovery from two major hurricanes, and gold medals at the Chelsea Flower Show in the United Kingdom. With unwavering resilience, Grenada progresses towards a promising future. Credell aims to promote glass upcycling, a budding initiative in Grenada, through her work, fostering sustainability and environmental consciousness.
